I started decorating for Halloween early this year. Like, really early. Like, my husband came home from work on August 29 and exclaimed, “It smells like fall in here!” Yes, yes it does. I needed to decorate for Halloween—it brings me joy and I’ll take whatever joy I can get in 2020. And I loved adding little touches this year that reflect our love for Disney.
The past few years we’ve been at Disney in the Fall, and since we won’t make it to Disney in 2020, I just NEEDED some Mickey pumpkins in my life! We’ve also added two large bookshelves to our living room this year, so I was excited to pick up some new things for the season to fill them out and make it feel ultra cozy in my favorite space in our house. ☺️
I started by heading to my local Disney Store in search of this adorable Mickey Pumpkin Votive Candle Holder that sold out online before I could get him. I was so happy when I walked into the store and there were three sitting right at the front of the first Halloween display I saw! 😊😊 Our local Disney Store is pretty small, so I was skeptical that they would even have it! (Side note: If you’re missing Disney a lot, I highly recommend taking a trip to the Disney Store if you can! The closest one to us is about a 45-minute drive, but it was so worth it! The music and the cast members and looking around at all the merch really lifted my spirits!)
I also ordered a few things from Happiest Day Co, which is one of my favorite Disney small shops.
Then I headed out to my old standbys for Halloween/Fall decor: Michaels and Marshalls. I didn’t make it to Hobby Lobby this year, but I had a bunch of stuff that I got there last year. And to top it all off, I ordered some candles from Bath & Body Works. Leaves is my all-time favorite candle scent, but I also got Autumn and Harvest Gathering. Autumn is a little more apple-y and Harvest Gathering has hints of cranberry.
I’ll be honest, my main method when I decorate for Halloween is just PUMPKINS EVERYWHERE. I also like to group things that are a little matchy. For example, in the photo above I loved the way the orange starred pumpkin matched the girl’s skirt in the Boo to You print. I also wanted to stick with pops of blue, since that’s the main color scheme in my living room, which is why I got some blue pumpkins, too. It takes me a while to fiddle around with everything until it looks how I like it, and one thing I realized is stacking books to give some things height really helps! I like to make the shelves look full because I think it makes it feel cozier. This was my first time decorating bookshelves like this, but I love how it turned out!
Just ignore that empty shelf on the bottom right. 🤦♀️ I’m still in search of a basket or something to go down there to hold/hide all the miscellaneous video game stuff.
There’s one thing I’m still in search of, and that’s a wreath that I like (and that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg)! But I did find this adorable Hocus Pocus doormat at Michaels and I’m in love with it!
I highly recommend putting on the Boo to You Halloween Parade Soundtrack and busting out those pumpkins! I promise it will make you feel fun and festive! And if you need some last minute Disney Halloween in your life, check out my DIY Mickey and Minnie Pumpkin Luminaries!
