Anyone else just so over adulting right now? Between recent health issues (non-COVID related, thankfully!) and major fixes to our house, trying to make the best decision regarding school for our little one, the constant dirty dishes (how is it even possible for a family of three to use every spoon we own in less than 24 hours??), and transitioning back to working in the office after working from home for more than four months—I am feeling so. burned. out. And I know I can’t be the only one who feels this way! Life is exhausting, especially in the midst of a global pandemic!

I’m finding myself desperate for a break more than ever. I even took a week off work, had an extended visit with my parents (and did plenty of relaxing by their pool), and have had many lazy Saturdays in the name of self-care, but I’m pretty sure what I really need is a trip to Disney (duh!). You know those shirts and hats that say I’m done adulting, where are the Disney Parks? That’s where I am right now.

I need a week of no cooking and no dishes.

We’ve never stayed in a DVC villa that had a kitchen (and even if we did, I doubt I’d cook in it because I don’t like to cook when I’m on vacation!), so when we are in Disney we eat out. It’s even better when we’ve scored free dining (which is currently not a thing, but fingers crossed it comes back sooner rather than later)!

I need a week of no driving.

The first time we went to Disney, it took me a while to figure out that part of the relaxation for us comes in the form of no road rage. Disney transportation is not perfect, but I love not having to worry about how to get to where I’m going or about other drivers on the road.

I need a week where I don’t have to make any decisions.

If you’re a “Disney planner” like I am, you know how great it feels to get to Disney and already have a vague plan of what you’re doing everyday! I’m a type 9 on the enneagram, and making decisions stresses me out, especially when they have to please everyone in my family! For our Disney trips, the pre-planning is essential and takes that decision-making stress out of our vacation!

I need a week where my kid is entertained.

For me, this is the big difference between being at Disney and some other vacations we’ve taken at all-inclusive beach resorts. Beach vacations are amazing in their own right, but it’s not so relaxing when your kid is whining about being bored while you just want to sit on the beach and rest, am I right? At Disney, there’s plenty to entertain the kids (even in the ride queues!), and certain resorts have kid’s activity centers if you want to splurge so you can have a date night! (Kid’s activity centers might not be operating right now due to COVID, but hopefully they will resume soon!)

Seeing the Milennium Falcon for the first time at Star War's Galaxy's Edge opening day in Walt Disney World!
I need a week where I can get excited about silly things.

At Disney World, it’s okay to love things. Which feels silly to say because of course it’s okay to love things, but at Disney it’s different. In the real world, it’s often seen as weird and/or nerdy to love things too much. But at Disney World, when you see your favorite character, you can get excited and wave and talk to that character and get your picture taken with that character and it’s a perfectly normal thing to do. You can scream your heart out on your favorite ride, sing along with your favorite songs at the top of your lungs, and experience your favorite movies in whole new ways.

At Disney World, I can be a fangirl all I want and no one is going to look at me sideways. At Disney World, adults can truly feel like carefree kids and just enjoy the things that make us happy! And I think that’s what really sets a Disney vacation apart as a true break from adulting.

I’m done adulting. Where are the Disney parks?
